Welcome and thanks for your interest in the Southern California Gang Prevention & Intervention Conference. This conference is designed to offer  hope and a closer look at those who are doing the work of gang prevention and intervention.

Each speaker will address gang issues that are relevant to law enforcement,  faith based organizations, educators, community members, parents, and all other concerned individuals and organizations.

Who should attend? 
Not only should the above mentioned people attend, but those who are concerned professionals and community members. We believe that if you have questions about gangs we will provide the answers.

Why should you attend?
If you work with children and families affected by gangs or desire to work with them, this conference is for you.  You will gain a greater understanding of gangs and ways to effectively address this population. You will have a rare opportunity to network with and discuss current gang issues and solutions with like minded professionals and individuals.

What to expect.
Expect excellent key note speakers and workshop presenters from law enforcement, mental health agencies and former hard core gang members who have made a remarkable change toward gang free living. The conference is designed to allow you opportunities to ask questions after each keynote speaker and workshop presenter.  

Kevin Brown - Senior Pastor of Side-By-Side Church International

J. Pastor Kevin is the Senior Pastor of Side-By-Side Church International located in Orange County, California.  He is a retired police officer with nearly 30 years of law enforcement experience including work with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, undercover narcotics, parolee apprehension, and thirteen years as a SWAT member. Kevin also directs “Lives Worth Saving Gang Intervention,” which is an organization that trains personnel to bring resources to gang members, as well as help them develop educational goals, employment opportunities, and other life skills. LWS also trains parents to recognize the signs of gang involvement and provide resources to help keep their children out of

Big Al grew up with a caring mother and had no contact with his father. As a child he lived in a physically violent and abusive environment, with his grandfather being the main violent abuser. Upon reaching adolescense, Big Al joined an East Los Angeles gang and along with his violent nature, he began using heroin.His violent mentality led him to enlist for three tours of duty in Vietnam. While there, in hand to hand combat, he killed with his bare hands and earned the reputation that many grew to fear and respect.He was shot two times in combat and eventually came back to the states. Big Al continued his drug use and horribly violent ways. In the early 1970's, Big Al co-founded "MONGOL NATION."  Come and listen as he gives insight to the making of a notorious gang member.

Mr. Carmona has been working on gang intervention for 45 years. 35 of them he spent with the LAUSD as an educator and has since had the PEACE WARRIORS at Luther Burbank,Stevenson, Markham and Hollenbeck middle schools, with various success at each school.

Art "Conejo" Blajos - Former hit man for the Mexican Mafia

Art Blajos grew up in a violent gangland subculture that led to his imprisonment at the age of 16. He spent a total of 17 years in prison including four and a half years on Death Row fighting the death penalty.  For 15 years he was an assassin for a prison gang. In 1984 he had a breakthrough via the ministry of Pastor Sonny Arguinzoni and the Victory Outreach. He went to a Victory Outreach Rehabilitation Home and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal savior. God not only transformed his mind, but also gave him a new heart. He recently authored "Blood In, Blood Out" a biography which chronicles his life in crime, his conversion and his ministry within Victory Outreach International. "Blood In, Blood Out" has been tremendously effective in

reaching thousands of inmates in the prison systems  throughout the world with the message of hope, and the plan of Jesus Christ.  His ministry includes personal street evangelism, gospel meetings, street rallies, crusades, Men's Discipleship Seminars and Prison Ministry Seminars.

Understanding the Truth of “Super Predator Youth” and Their Incarceration

Presented by Brian Warth

Brian was sucked into the gang violence that swept across Los Angeles in the early 90s. Consequently, he was arrested at age 16, and sentenced to an adult life sentence in prison. Today, he is a pastor, conference speaker, and advocate for our nation's fallen teens.  He regularly speaks at youth facilities in Los Angeles and is the recipient of the Warrior of Peace Award by the warden of the youth prison in Norwalk.

Gang Work in the Hood, Home, and Campus

Presented by Michael A. Gonzalez

Michael was raised in L.A. and grew-up in a highly dysfunctional home. Michael is a survivor of physical, psychological, and sexual abuse, as well as, a former drug addict and gang member. Michael attempted to commit suicide three times. Fortunately, Michael received Jesus-Christ as his Lord and Savior 30 years ago and his life changed. Life has not been easy for Michael he has endured incredible pain, loss and medical issues. But Michael is a man of faith, courage and passion. Several years ago Michael developed a program for at-risk youth and it has been implemented in several schools within the SAUSD.

At the young age of 18 Jeffrey Osborne was faced with a decision, either accept his calling or continue running. The decision to keep running would have a costly price of 16 years to life!  As God would have it, there in a substation in Culver City on his knees Jeffrey would no longer run but embrace the calling for his life. No longer running from his calling, Jeffrey still had a long road of character building which included spending ten months in jail and eventually prison. While there, young Jeff had to overcome many obstacles including a near death riot fueled by racism!
